Medicine information
Uses & overview
Telmisartan & Hydrochlorothiazide is a combination medicine prescribed to manage high blood pressure, particularly when treatment with a single medicine does not provide sufficient control. It combines two active ingredients that work through different mechanisms to help maintain healthy blood pressure levels. Telmisartan belongs to a class of medicines called angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs). It helps relax blood vessels by blocking the action of angiotensin II, allowing blood to flow more easily. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that helps the kidneys remove excess salt and water from the body through urine. This reduces fluid volume and supports blood pressure control. Consistent blood pressure management can help reduce the risk of serious complications, including stroke, heart attack, and certain forms of kidney damage. Possible side effects include dizziness, increased urination, dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, and changes in kidney function. Your doctor may recommend regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels.
How to use
Follow the prescribed dosage: Take the exact dose recommended by your healthcare professional. Do not increase, reduce, or discontinue the medicine without medical advice. Take it consistently: This combination is generally taken once daily. Taking it at the same time each day can help maintain steady blood pressure control. Take it with or without food: Telmisartan & Hydrochlorothiazide can generally be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet with water and follow the instructions provided with your specific product. Consider the timing: Because hydrochlorothiazide increases urination, taking the medicine in the morning may be convenient. Follow your doctor's instructions about the best time for your dose. Manage missed doses carefully: If you forget a dose, follow the package leaflet or ask your pharmacist for advice. Never take a double dose to make up for a missed tablet. Monitor blood pressure regularly: Keep a record of your blood pressure readings and attend scheduled appointments so your doctor can assess treatment effectiveness. Maintain hydration appropriately: Drink fluids according to your doctor's advice. Excessive fluid loss from sweating, vomiting, or diarrhoea may cause dehydration and low blood pressure. Report other medicines and symptoms: Inform your doctor about other blood pressure medicines, diuretics, lithium, or potassium supplements. Seek medical advice if you experience severe dizziness, fainting, muscle weakness, or an irregular heartbeat. Attend follow-up tests: Your doctor may monitor kidney function, sodium, potassium, and other electrolytes during treatment.
