Uses & overview
enofovir 300 mg, Emtricitabine 200 mg and Efavirenz 600 mg is a fixed-dose combination of three antiretroviral medicines used to treat HIV-1 infection in suitable patients. This formulation combines two nucleoside or nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors, tenofovir and emtricitabine, with efavirenz, a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. Together, these medicines interfere with the viral enzymes needed for HIV replication, helping reduce viral activity and support immune function. Tenofovir and emtricitabine inhibit reverse transcriptase, an enzyme HIV uses to convert its genetic material into DNA. Efavirenz also inhibits reverse transcriptase through a different mechanism. Using these medicines together helps suppress HIV when the combination is appropriate for the patient's treatment history and clinical circumstances. This medicine is not a cure for HIV. Consistent adherence is essential to maintain viral suppression and reduce the risk of developing drug resistance. Efavirenz may cause dizziness, vivid dreams, sleep disturbances or other nervous system effects. Tenofovir may affect kidney function, while liver-related adverse effects can also occur. Your doctor may recommend regular viral load testing, kidney function tests and other monitoring.
How to use
Follow your prescription: Take the prescribed dose at the recommended time every day. Do not change the dose or frequency independently. Check food instructions: Efavirenz-containing regimens are often taken on an empty stomach, preferably at bedtime, to help reduce certain side effects. Follow the instructions for your specific product and your doctor's advice. Maintain consistent use: Try to take the medicine at the same time daily to support adherence. Handle missed doses carefully: Follow your patient leaflet or ask your pharmacist what to do. Never take a double dose to compensate for a missed dose. Avoid stopping treatment: Interruptions can allow HIV to multiply and may contribute to drug resistance. Contact your specialist before making any treatment changes. Review other medicines: Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, supplements, and herbal products because efavirenz can interact with many medicines. Attend regular check-ups: Your healthcare team may monitor viral load, kidney function, liver function, and other relevant health indicators. Store correctly: Keep the tablets in their original packaging according to the manufacturer's storage instructions and out of children's reach.
