Uses & overview
Rizatriptan Benzoate is a prescription medication belonging to the triptan class of medicines. It is primarily indicated for the acute treatment of migraine attacks, with or without aura, in adults and certain eligible pediatric patients according to approved product labeling. Rizatriptan works by activating specific serotonin 5-HT1B and 5-HT1D receptors, helping reduce migraine-related pain signals and associated symptoms. This medicine may help relieve migraine headache pain, nausea, and sensitivity to light or sound during an attack. Rizatriptan Benzoate is intended to treat an existing migraine episode rather than prevent future attacks. Its suitability depends on the patient's medical history, age, cardiovascular health, and other medications.
How to use
Follow Your Prescription: Take Rizatriptan Benzoate exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not exceed the prescribed dose or frequency. Take at Migraine Onset: Use the medicine when a migraine headache begins, following your doctor's instructions. It is not intended to prevent future attacks. Administration: Swallow a standard tablet with water. If you have an orally disintegrating tablet, follow the product leaflet for correct administration. Food Instructions: Rizatriptan can generally be taken with or without food. Follow the directions supplied with your specific formulation. If the Migraine Returns: Your doctor may advise a second dose if the headache improves and then returns. Follow the prescribed interval and maximum daily dose; do not repeat a dose if the first dose did not help without medical advice. Missed Dose: Rizatriptan is generally taken as needed for an acute migraine rather than on a regular schedule. Do not take an extra dose when you are not experiencing a migraine.
