Uses & overview
POLYSTERN ORAL SUSPENSION by Steris Healthcare contains Calcium Polystyrene Sulphate 15 g/60 mL and is formulated for oral administration. It is a potassium-binding resin used as part of the medical management of hyperkalemia (high potassium levels in the blood). Calcium polystyrene sulphonate works in the gastrointestinal tract by exchanging calcium ions for potassium ions, thereby helping remove potassium from the body through the gastrointestinal route. It may be prescribed for patients who require additional potassium control, including certain patients with impaired kidney function. POLYSTERN ORAL SUSPENSION should be used only according to the dosage and dietary recommendations provided by a qualified healthcare professional. Regular monitoring of blood potassium and other electrolytes may be required during treatment.
How to use
Use POLYSTERN ORAL SUSPENSION only as directed by your doctor. Shake the bottle well before use and measure the prescribed quantity accurately using a suitable measuring device. Do not change the dose or frequency without medical advice. Your healthcare professional may recommend blood tests to monitor potassium and other electrolyte levels during treatment. Follow any dietary instructions provided by your doctor or dietitian.
