Medicine information
Uses & overview
Etoricoxib Tablets (60 mg) are prescription medicines used to manage pain and inflammation associated with certain joint and musculoskeletal conditions. Etoricoxib belongs to the selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor class of medicines. It works by reducing the production of prostaglandins, substances involved in the development of pain, swelling, and inflammation. Doctors may prescribe etoricoxib 60 mg for conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis, depending on the patient's diagnosis and medical history. The medicine may help improve comfort and mobility by reducing inflammatory symptoms, but it does not cure the underlying condition. The appropriate dose and duration depend on the condition being treated and the individual's response to therapy. Although etoricoxib selectively targets COX-2, it can still cause important adverse effects. These may include increased blood pressure, fluid retention, stomach discomfort, and changes in kidney function. It may also increase the risk of heart attack or stroke, particularly in people with cardiovascular risk factors or those using higher doses for extended periods. Before starting treatment, inform your doctor if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, a previous stroke, stomach ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding, kidney problems, or liver disease. Tell your healthcare professional about all other medicines you take, especially other NSAIDs, anticoagulants, and medicines for blood pressure. For safe use, take etoricoxib at the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration recommended by your doctor. Do not increase the dose yourself or combine it with other anti-inflammatory painkillers without medical advice.
How to use
Take Etoricoxib Tablets 60 mg exactly as directed by your doctor or qualified healthcare professional. Swallow the tablet with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew it unless your healthcare professional specifically instructs you to do so. Etoricoxib can generally be taken with or without food. Follow the directions on your prescription or product leaflet. Take the medicine at approximately the same time each day if your doctor has prescribed regular daily use. Use the 60 mg strength only for the condition and duration recommended by your healthcare professional. Do not take extra tablets if your pain persists. Contact your doctor if symptoms do not improve or become worse. Avoid taking etoricoxib alongside other NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen, naproxen, or diclofenac, unless specifically advised by your doctor. Inform your healthcare professional about any existing medical conditions and all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, and supplements you use. If you miss a dose, follow your prescription instructions or ask your pharmacist for advice. Never take a double dose to compensate. Seek urgent medical attention if you develop chest pain, breathing difficulty, facial swelling, black stools, or signs of gastrointestinal bleeding. Attend follow-up appointments if recommended, particularly if you have high blood pressure or kidney or cardiovascular risk factors.
