Uses & overview
Clindamycin 150 mg is an antibiotic used to treat specific bacterial infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. It belongs to the lincosamide group and works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, which helps prevent bacteria from growing and multiplying. Depending on the infection and clinical assessment, healthcare professionals may prescribe clindamycin for certain skin and soft tissue infections, dental infections, bone and joint infections, and other susceptible bacterial conditions. Clindamycin is not effective against viral illnesses such as the common cold or influenza. Its use should be based on a healthcare professional's assessment because unnecessary antibiotic treatment can contribute to antimicrobial resistance. One important safety consideration is the risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea, including potentially serious Clostridioides difficile-associated colitis, which can occur during or after treatment. Take Clindamycin 150 mg exactly as prescribed. Inform your doctor about previous antibiotic-associated diarrhoea, gastrointestinal disease, allergies, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and other medicines you take. Seek medical advice promptly if you develop severe or persistent diarrhoea, a serious rash, or signs of an allergic reaction.
How to use
Follow your prescription: Take Clindamycin 150 mg only when prescribed by a qualified healthcare professional for an appropriate bacterial infection. Use the correct dose: The dose, frequency, and treatment duration depend on the infection, its severity, your age, and your medical history. Swallow with a full glass of water: Take the capsule with plenty of water to reduce the risk of throat irritation or oesophageal injury. Remain upright: Avoid lying down immediately after taking the capsule. Stay sitting or standing for at least 30 minutes. Follow the schedule: Take each dose at the prescribed intervals. Do not take extra capsules if symptoms do not improve immediately. Follow food instructions: Clindamycin capsules can generally be taken with or without food, unless your specific product instructions say otherwise. Missed dose: Follow the patient leaflet or ask your pharmacist for advice. Do not double your next dose. Complete treatment as directed: Do not stop, extend, or change your antibiotic course without consulting your doctor. Monitor side effects: Contact your doctor promptly if you develop severe, persistent, or bloody diarrhoea, even after finishing treatment. Avoid self-medication: Do not use leftover antibiotics or share your capsules with other people.
