Medicine information
Uses & overview
Cilostazol 100 mg Tablet is a prescription medicine primarily used to improve walking distance in adults experiencing intermittent claudication associated with peripheral arterial disease (PAD). This condition develops when narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to the legs, potentially causing pain, cramping, or tiredness during physical activity. Symptoms often improve with rest but may return when walking resumes. Cilostazol belongs to the phosphodiesterase III inhibitor class. It increases cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) levels in platelets and blood vessels, helping inhibit platelet aggregation and produce vasodilation. These effects may improve blood flow and help eligible patients walk farther with fewer symptoms. The response varies between individuals, and improvement may take several weeks. Cilostazol is not a substitute for a comprehensive treatment plan addressing peripheral arterial disease, including exercise, smoking cessation, and management of cardiovascular risk factors. Common side effects include headache, diarrhoea, abnormal stools, palpitations, and dizziness. Cilostazol can increase heart rate and may raise the risk of cardiovascular complications in susceptible patients. It is contraindicated in patients with heart failure of any severity. Inform your doctor about heart disease, bleeding problems, kidney or liver conditions, and all medicines you take, particularly drugs that may interact with cilostazol.
How to use
1. Take only as prescribed: Use Cilostazol 100 mg Tablet under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional. The dose and treatment duration depend on your medical history and response. 2. Follow the timing instructions: Cilostazol is commonly prescribed twice daily. It is generally taken at least 30 minutes before or two hours after breakfast and dinner. Follow your specific product leaflet and doctor's instructions. 3. Swallow with water: Take the tablet with water as directed. Do not change the prescribed dose or frequency independently. 4. Manage missed doses carefully: If you forget a dose, follow your pharmacist's advice and take the next dose at its usual time when appropriate. Do not double the dose. 5. Check medicine interactions: Tell your doctor about all medicines, especially certain antibiotics, antifungals, and other drugs that may increase cilostazol exposure. 6. Attend follow-up appointments: Your doctor may monitor symptom improvement, heart rate, blood pressure, and adverse effects. 7. Combine treatment with lifestyle measures: Follow your clinician's recommendations regarding supervised walking exercise, smoking cessation, and cardiovascular risk management. 8. Know when to seek help: Obtain urgent medical attention for chest pain, fainting, severe palpitations, or unusual bleeding.
