Meropenem Injection is a broad-spectrum prescription antibiotic belonging to the carbapenem group of antibacterial medicines. It is used by healthcare professionals to treat certain serious bacterial infections when the causative organisms are susceptible to meropenem. Depending on the approved product information and clinical diagnosis, its uses may include complicated intra-abdominal infections, complicated skin and soft-tissue infections, bacterial meningitis, and selected severe hospital-associated infections. Meropenem works by inhibiting bacterial cell-wall synthesis, helping destroy susceptible bacteria. Because it is an important antibiotic for treating serious infections, its use should be guided by clinical assessment, appropriate laboratory testing, and local antimicrobial-resistance guidelines. It is not effective against viral infections such as influenza or the common cold. Meropenem Injection must be administered intravenously by trained healthcare professionals. The dose and treatment duration depend on the infection, its severity, patient age, kidney function, and clinical response. Inform your treating doctor about previous antibiotic allergies, kidney or liver conditions, seizure disorders, and other medicines you take.
