ALLOPURIC 300
Allopurinol (300mg)
Introduction
Allopurinol (300mg), branded as ALLOPURIC 300, is a medication primarily used to manage gout and kidney stones. This medication is an effective solution for those suffering from high levels of uric acid, which can lead to painful conditions if left untreated. By reducing uric acid production in the body, Allopurinol helps prevent gout attacks and the formation of certain types of kidney stones.
Uses
Allopurinol (300mg) is primarily prescribed for the treatment and management of chronic gout and kidney stones. By lowering uric acid levels, it helps to prevent the formation of uric acid crystals, which are the primary cause of gout attacks. Additionally, it is used to manage high uric acid levels in patients undergoing cancer treatment, which can result in increased uric acid production due to the breakdown of cancer cells. Allopurinol is also beneficial for patients with recurrent calcium oxalate stones in the kidneys, as it helps to reduce the amount of uric acid in the urine, minimizing stone formation.
Dosage
The dosage of Allopurinol (300mg) varies depending on the patient's condition and response to the medication. Typically, the initial dose for adults starts at 100 mg per day, gradually increasing to the full 300 mg daily dose. For severe cases, the dosage may be adjusted by a healthcare provider to ensure optimal results. It's important to follow the prescribed dosage and take the medication regularly to maintain stable uric acid levels. Allopurinol should be taken with a full glass of water, preferably after a meal, to minimize stomach upset.
Side Effects
While Allopurinol (300mg) is generally well-tolerated, some patients may experience side effects. Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, and drowsiness. In rare cases, patients might develop a skin rash or experience liver issues. It's crucial to report any unusual or severe side effects to a healthcare provider immediately. Regular monitoring and blood tests may be required to ensure the medication is not adversely affecting kidney or liver function.
Price
The cost of ALLOPURIC 300 in India varies depending on the pharmacy and location. On average, a pack of 10 tablets is priced around ₹80 to ₹100. Prices may differ slightly based on availability and local taxes. It's advisable to compare prices at different pharmacies or consider generic versions for cost-effective alternatives.
Conclusion
Allopurinol (300mg), marketed as ALLOPURIC 300, is a highly effective medication for managing gout, kidney stones, and high uric acid levels associated with cancer treatment. By consistently taking the prescribed dosage, patients can significantly reduce the risk of painful gout attacks and prevent kidney stone formation. Despite potential side effects, the benefits of Allopurinol in maintaining healthy uric acid levels make it a valuable treatment option for those in need.
